Too much of the valley

aargh...Two trips to Turlock, two trips to Marysville, two cars each time--all in 3 days. The end is in sight, and we only need to see another sunset to remind ourselves that it has all been worth it.
Thursday was an especially long day, with several appointments, and a little car trouble on the way home.

So it was nice to keep the trip today short, and get home before sunset. And even have some time to sew--just couldn't face unpacking the cars. Actually, the unpacking is not the daunting part--it's trying to find places to put everything. Half of what I'm moving now will be thrown away, I just need to stay home long enough to sort and pitch.

Today's project is one I've had in mind for the little Blooms--10 12"x 22". I like Medallion quilts, especially when there is an extra special feature print to show off. So I figured this little baby quilt is a great place to start experimenting. I have a feeling there will be some variations coming along with this one, too.

This started by setting aside the feature piece. The remaining 9 were cut into 10" squares--or rather 11" rough cuts. I paired up prints, right sides together. Cut them first into 10" squares. Then cut 4" off the left side and 4" off the bottom--without letting them shift. There are 1 4"x4", 2 4"x 6", 1 6"x 6". Make two blocks from each pair, just by swapping the 2 fabrics and resewing them in the same order they were cut. There are 18 blocks total.

Lay it out. (I rotated the blocks to give it a more random feel.) Sew pairs of blocks together. Cut the center panel the size of 2 blocks together--about 9 1/2"x 18 1/2". Finish sewing the top.

Today's best....seeing the end near.
